“As in all Advantech Wireless Hub designs, scalability and flexibility allow for expansion beyond these metrics, if and when the needs arise. A powerful feature of the Millennium Hub is its redundancy capability. On the Forward Link, the standard design incorporates a 1:5 scheme, whereby one Forward Link chain operates in a Hot Standby mode, ready to automatically takeover in the event of a malfunction of any of the 5 active Forward Link systems” stated John Landovskis, PLM Director at Advantech Wireless. “Similarly, for the Return Link, the standard design provides for a 1:n redundancy scheme”.

The New Millennium Hub is designed to operate with all fixed satellite frequency bands (C, X, Ku, Ka-Band) and will support all of Advantech Wireless family of Remote terminals, known as SITs (Satellite Interactive Terminals). Star, star/mesh hybrid and high-capacity SCPC are all supported in the Millennium Hubs.

The New VSAT Hub is ideally suited for Network Operators and Service Providers. Scalability allows CAPEX expenditures to match network growth. VNO capability allows support of numerous virtual operators. VPN capability provides secure communications for sensitive information transfers.

Advantech Wireless’ complete line of DVB-RCS Hubs range from the Entry Level Discovery 100, through the Discovery 200 and Discovery 300, to the new Millennium Series VSAT Hub for HTS. This powerful suite of products provides a solution well matched to a broad range of user applications and requirements.

MONTREAL, CANADA, January 15, 2013 – Advantech Wireless Inc., a privately-held Canadian corporation and manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems, announced today that it has received new orders in excess of $3M for the new line of Super High Power, High Linearity, Modular GaN based Solid State Power Amplifiers operating in Extended C-band, X-band and Extended Ku-band, for a North American customer.

GaN based SSPAs are opening completely new market opportunities for Satellite based Communications with unmatched performance, high reliability and low OPEX. Within the same footprint, GaN allows to double the RF power and reduce energy consumption by up to 70%. In addition, GaN exceeds by several orders of magnitude the performance of previous generation of SSPAs based on LDMOS or GaAs technology.

“Never before was this kind of performance achievable either by using Solid Sate or TWTs. With RF power levels up to 6.6 kW, these units are able to cover simultaneously all transponders of a specific satellite. The modular architecture replaces expensive redundancy schemes, and the use of liquid cooling eliminates the hazardous noise levels generated by cooling fans on previous generation of systems. Combined with our high performance line of large diameter antennas, these new systems offer the only worldwide solution for services like DTH Broadcasting, High Data Rate Telecom Services, Deep Space Communication, with up to 40% cost savings both in OPEX and CAPEX” stated Cristi Damian, VP Business Development at Advantech Wireless.

The high reliability, high efficiency and high linearity of Advantech Wireless systems, make them a powerful and unique solution able to offer the highest efficiency in use of satellite bandwidth and power.

Montreal, Canada, October 22, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems is pleased to announce the release of a new line of weather-proof DVB-RCS remote terminals. The first two terminals available are the S4920 DVB-RCS SCADA VSAT Terminal and the S5920 Ruggedized DVB-RCS VSAT Terminal. Both terminals are built to withstand the harsh environments encountered in outdoor applications, from the sand and heat of the desert to the rain, humidity and salt fog of maritime applications to the cold and remote environment of northern and alpine locations. The terminals are fully weatherized, designed without fans and temperature certified up to +65 degrees Celsius.

The S4920 terminal is targeted to SCADA applications, including pipelines, remote weather stations, and un-manned remote locations. The terminal can operate on AC or DC power and has unique power-saving features analogous to a ‘sleep mode’ while still maintaining synchronization to the network. The unit can receive a full DVB-S2 transmission from a Hub location and is capable of transmitting up to 512 kbps on the return link to the Hub.

The S5920 terminal is a higher-end ruggedized variation, ideally suited for on-the-move or at-the-pause applications. In addition to receiving a full DVB-S2 transmission it is capable of transmitting at up to 8Mbps. This unit can satisfy the demanding requirements of military and resource-sector customers. It has the same weather-proof enclosure as the S4920 with the additional ruggedization to withstand the shock and vibration encountered in vehicle-mounted applications.

All Advantech Wireless DVB-RCS terminals come with embedded QoS and TCP Acceleration features. Options exist to incorporate encryption (IPSec) and VLAN operation, as well as optimized support for real-time applications such as VoIP and VTCoIP.

Montreal, Canada, October 4th, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems has pushed the envelope even further by recording 155 Mbps forward link throughput performance with its new generation of Discovery Hubs and Terminals. This breaks previous performance records and secures Advantech Wireless’ dominance in the VSAT Marketplace.

The Discovery Series product line-up starts with the smallest, most fully-featured, lowest-cost, fully functional hub in the world, the Discovery 100. The mid-range Discovery 200 offers support for up to 1500 terminals and, finally, the most powerful Hub in the world, the Discovery 300, provides full capacity and support for up to 10,000 simultaneously logged in terminals on a single hub. These next generation designs have been optimized for performance and reliability, with remote upgrade capabilities via softkeys (software licenses) as increased capacity is needed. Customers can purchase these products today with the confidence of knowing that they are based on Advantech Wireless’ 20 years of field proven technology.

Powered by available A-SAT™ technology, the Discovery Series Hubs and terminals not only dynamically switch between SCPC and TDMA modes to optimize bandwidth, but now offer up to 155 Mbps throughput on the forward link. The Discovery series of hubs is raising the bar.

David Gelerman, CEO of Advantech Wireless, states: “This amazing performance gain is a direct result of our pursuit of excellence.

Montreal, Canada, September 12, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of broadcast-quality Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems announces the release of a new series of indoor, GaN technology based solid state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and BUCs featuring high power, high linearity and a compact size. Named the Super Compact SG Series, the high power amplifiers can easily replace old technology and inefficient TWTAs, offering enormous cost saving and reduce operating costs. The units practically pay for themselves in a short time. Smaller, lighter and more efficient amplifiers that truly support the Green initiative. In addition, these new amplifiers are perfect for SNG applications.

The new Super Compact SG Series C-Band SSPA/BUCs provide highest power density in the industry. Combined with the traditional Advantech Wireless features, these new series of BUCs provide the ultimate in performance and convenience. They feature: Full range of output power of 200W, 250W, 400W or 500W in a compact single package; High linearity; Redundant ready with no external controller; Full M&C capability via RS232, RS485 or Ethernet port; Built-in Forward and Reflected precision power metering; Output RF calibrated Sample Port; Redundant Systems shipped fully tested; Infinite VSWR protection with automatic high reflected power shutdown; Detachable power supply module; 19” Rackmount, 24” deep; CE marking.

Cristi Damian, VP Product Line Management and Business Development at Advantech Wireless states: “These new high power amplifiers deliver more power per square inch than anything else in the market. Advantech Wireless is a pioneer of GaN-based High Power Amplifiers. Within the same footprint, GaN allows us to double the RF power and reduce energy consumption by up to 70%”.

“For example – you can replace your old 750 Watt TWTA with a 400 Watt GaN; a 400 TWTA can easily be replaced with a 200W GaN. Better performance. Solid State reliability. Better warranty!” states Cristi Damian.

Advantech Wireless is offering a special promotion until the end of this month. Advantech Wireless is making it easier to get into the new technology wagon by offering a special replacement promotion that credits up to $1,000 for your old TWTA towards the purchase of a replacement SSPA or BUC from us by September 30, 2012.

Montreal, Canada, September 7, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of broadcast-quality Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems is pleased to announce that David Gelerman, CEO of Advantech Wireless, will be speaking at the upcoming COMSYS VSAT 2012 Conference in London about Small Steps Towards Risk Mitigation.

The structure of the VSAT industry is continually changing as new technologies, frequencies, applications and platforms are brought to market. Hardware cost, particularly the initial investment required by a new or expanding operator, has been falling over the past few years. Mr. Gelerman’s presentation will answer: to what extent costs have to be driven down further, what products we have in place to enable greater innovation on the part of service providers and finally the implications for the market.

Mr. Gelerman will also discuss Advantech Wireless’ ground-breaking Adaptive Satellite Access Technology (A-SAT) and how the VSAT world will be favourably impacted.

The COMSYS VSAT Conference is where the pivotal players in the VSAT industry come together. The objective of the conference is to focus on key issues, latest developments and strongest areas of opportunity in the global marketplace by bringing together the major decision-makers and most successful exponents in the industry. The conference draws the highest profile speakers and delegates from the four corners of the globe and will take place from 12-14 September 2012 at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Montreal, Canada, August 20, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of broadcast-quality Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems announces the release of the newest generation satellite communications product, the Discovery Series A-SAT Product line. A-SAT stands for Adaptive Satellite Access Technology. A-SAT is beyond dual mode RCS/TDMA-SCPC, developed by Advantech several years ago and well ahead of the competition that just announced basic versions of this capability. A-SAT monitors channel utilization and switches seamlessly the satellite access method and mod code for the return channel to dynamically maximize the space segment utilization efficiency.

Advantech Wireless Inc., is a technology power house, having developed over the years both High Throughput SCPC Modems, and DVBS2/RCS-TDMA Discovery Hubs. The lower cost of the Entry Level Discovery 100 Hub, which features the high throughput SBM-75e modulator with embedded IPE, has allowed Advantech Wireless to offer similar throughput (100 Mbps+) as the Hub forward link right at the remote stations. It is like having a Hub outbound capability at the remote station with Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA).

More importantly, it does it in a way that significantly saves space segment by using dynamic DVB-S2 and modcodes all the way to 16 APSK LDPC (or even 32APSK, if the link could be closed) on the return channel and the fastest TDMA-RCS scheduler in the world featuring 26.5 ms frames.

Operators often face the dilemma of choosing between SCPC or TDMA platforms depending on their customer’s applications and traffic patterns, and more recently face the problem of limited throughput VSATs, as their customer application now demand more and more bandwidth on the return channel.

Recognizing the dynamic nature of traffic and unpredictable traffic bursts, A-SAT technology developed by Advantech Wireless resolves this dilemma by combining both technologies in the same platform which adapts to the traffic needs, seamlessly to the user, and delivering the best navigation experience with the lowest occupied transponder bandwidth.

Having both technologies in the same platform significantly saves OPEX and SIMPLIFIES the operation, eliminating the cumbersomeness of handling multiple, often divorced platforms. Supporting from tens to tens of thousands of users, the Discovery Series Hubs and remote terminals offer software key upgrade solutions to grow and meet any need.

Montreal, Canada, August 17, 2012 — Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of broadcast-quality Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems announces the release of a new whitepaper titled: A new generation of Gallium Nitride (GaN) based Solid State Power Amplifiers for Satellite Communication. The paper explores the technology and benefits of incorporating GaN into a line of High Power Amplifiers.

Energy efficiency and going “Green” is very important throughout the world. The Advantech Wireless whitepaper indentifies and explains how it is possible to achieve significant reductions in energy consumption, space and weight while maintaining linearity and significant output power.

The introduction of Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistors (GaN HEMT) in early 2000 has left an undeniable mark on the entire satellite communication landscape. “It is now possible for the first time since the introduction of the Solid State Microwave Technology to design and manufacture Power Amplifiers that exceed by several orders of magnitude the reliability, linearity, power density and energy efficiency of all existing technologies, being GaAs, LDMOS, or TWT” states Cristi Damian, VP Product Line Management and Business Development at Advantech Wireless.

Over the past 6 years, Advantech Wireless has developed a full line of GaN based SSPAs and BUCs/SSPBs (Block Up Converter integrated with SSPA). The product line was launched at Satellite 2010 in Washington, included up to 200W Ku-band offering, the first product line worldwide.

Since then, major deployments in both the commercial and military markets have been taken place with thousands of devices now operating in the field. GaN is a mature, stable and high reliability technology with low OPEX. By using patent pending technologies and in close cooperation with key technology suppliers, Advantech Wireless has managed to perfect the design, and to raise the performance of GaN based SSPA/SSPB above all existing technologies.

London, England, July 17, 2012 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems is helping broadcasters to cope with what is destined to be a very active summer of sport. Advantech Wireless has increased its UK facility stock levels of its high performance satellite amplifiers; frequency converters; DVB-S2 modulators and demodulators; and mobile antenna systems during this key summer period. Advantech Wireless’ experienced, UK-based, technical support team are also available to give advice. All products are special priced and ready for immediate delivery.

As London, UK, builds up for what is expected to be a summer of sport and the world’s broadcasters descend to keep everyone in touch with every last detail, Advantech Wireless is well aware that sometimes it is not only the athletes that can have a bad day. “Though Advantech Wireless can’t do much to help with the ups and downs athletic performance, the company is able to assist the Broadcasters to keep the news flowing” states Mark Lambert, VP Sales & Marketing, Managing Director EMEA Region at Advantech Wireless.

Advantech Wireless’ DVB modulator and demodulator products with built-in multiplexing and encryption options, and our vehicle-mounted and fly-away antenna systems, with fast single-button auto-pointing, are great for getting content in from the field (no matter whether that is the local sports field or that distant battle field).

Regardless of the choice of physical interface, Advantech Wireless terrestrial microwave solutions can carry a broadcasting signal via DVB-ASI, STM-1, DS/3 or plain IP. In the ASI interface, the radios can carry two ASI streams in both directions at up to 210 Mbps. Optionally, the equipment can be upgraded to carry as much as 8 ASI streams. Each ASI stream carries an independent Multiple Program Transport Stream (MPTS), with either 188-byte or 204-byte packet sizes along with the ability to carry the 10MHz clock to support Single Frequency Network (SFN) infrastructure. Alternatively, for some customers who prefer to carry broadcasting signals via STM-1, DS/3 or IP, Advantech Wireless’ radios support 2xSTM-1, 3xDS/3 and up to 380 Mbps per radio channel.

Montreal, Canada, July 6, 2012 – Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, (VSAT SYSTEMS), RF Equipment and Microwave Systems, announced today that after successfully fulfilling a recent order for $2.4M, it was awarded a new additional contract for $3 million. Both contracts add up to more than 3500 VSAT earth station equipment for a Telephone Company in Latin America that is undergoing significant network expansions to support multiple services including enterprise, COTM, mobile backhaul, and NGN nodes. Specific equipment ordered under this contract award includes the S4120 Advanced DVBS2-RCS VSAT, and the S5420 DVBS2-SCPC or RCS Adaptive VSAT, equipped with Advantech Wireless LNB and BUCs and complete IFL and Antenna kits. The VSAT system will operate in both Ku and C-Band.

The choice to select the Advantech Wireless platform vs. competitive platforms was based on the space segment and IP overall efficiencies, taking most advantages of the Customer Telephone Company’s space segment and infrastructure assets. Advantech Wireless’ platform was seamlessly integrated to provide cellular backhaul, COTM, IP Enterprise Services including Internet access, VoIP, VC, and Video Distribution, and Residential Services using NGN over satellite.

“These significant expansions are a strong testimony of Advantech Wireless’ capabilities to expand their platform from small to very large complex networks of thousands of VSATs supporting Carrier Class Services” said Paul Sandoval, VP of Sales for the Americas at Advantech Wireless. In addition, “our Platform not only demonstrated once again to be economically expandable but also by using our Advanced Adaptive Satellite Access Technology we were able to duplicate the capacity in Mbps within the same Space Segment. At the end of the day what we have accomplished with this technology is to squeeze the most Mbps out of the Mhz, bringing significant savings in OPEX too”.

Advantech Wireless, the company that built the world’s first DVB-RCS system, continues to respond to market demands by developing new, powerful and highly flexible systems designed to minimize the cost of upgrading and capable of meeting the functional and performance requirements of the most demanding system configurations. Customers can purchase these products today with the confidence of knowing that they are based on Advantech Wireless’ 20 years of proven field technology.

Montreal, Canada, June 11, 2012 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of DVB-RCS VSAT Hubs, RF Equipment and Microwave systems, is proud to announce that it received and completed a contract to provide a redundant DVB-S2 ACM forward link to expand an existing Advantech Wireless VSAT Hub for a major communications firm in the mid-western USA. This contract has enhanced their ability to offer web-based proof of performance to their customers in hundreds of digital display locations throughout the USA.

Advantech Wireless has provided this redundant forward link by adding DVB-RCS VSAT hub equipment that includes AMT-75 DVB-S2 ACM modulators, IPe-422 IP Encapsulators, ACM adaption units and RF switches. Advantech Wireless also provided the powerful NetManger tool for network optimization, remote monitoring and control. Additionally, Net QoS software was installed. It will improve bandwidth management for their mixed-media traffic.

The customer has migrated from DVB-S to DVB-S2 CCM and now to DVB-S2 ACM since first purchasing their VSAT hub from Advantech Wireless in 2004. “The ability to provide this customer with a scalable solution was a key factor in their initial purchase decision and the reliability and performance of Advantech Wireless’s products is what keeps them returning,” affirms Pierre Cardinal, VP Global Sales.

The addition of advanced coding and modulation (ACM) technology allows the VSAT hub to respond dynamically to changes in each terminal’s situation and weather conditions that may cause signal degradation. The use of ACM can improve capacity of up to 200%, as it eliminates the need for fixed system link margins typically used to mitigate rain fade or interference.

The customer’s hub now supports 3 outbound transport streams (1 TS – DVB-S, 1TS – DVB-S2 CCM, 1TS – DVB-S2 ACM) with all inbound carriers being supported on a single card Advantech MCD (MultiCarrier Demodulator). This configuration is unique in the industry. A major advantage is that the configuration enables the terminals associated with all 3 TS to statistically share the one pool of inbound carriers among all the terminals. Other systems would have a minimum of 3 separate pools of satellite bandwidth making the scheduling of the bandwidth significantly less efficient. This feature also enables easy movement of terminals between the different TS without any loss in inbound efficiency. This mechanism allows customers to migrate legacy terminals running DVB-S to DVB-S2 at their own pace without any concern for loss of inbound bandwidth efficiencies

Montreal, Canada, February 10, 2012 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave equipment and Smartrove, the newest data offload company based in the silicon valley in the United States, have successfully deployed a large microwave network in the island of Bermuda. This alliance allows Bermuda police department to reach the farthest corners of the island wirelessly and improve law and order by having a 24×7 video surveillance system operate over carrier grade equipment from Advantech Wireless and Smartrove.

“This project is an example of combination two wireless technologies, in the licensed and unlicensed domain. Using the 5, 28Mhz channel width, in the 7Ghz licensed band and frequencies in the unlicensed 5Ghz band, a 99.999 availability video surveillance system has been deployed and successfully been operating for 2 years” said Venkat Kalkunte, President and CEO, Smartrove. Mr Kalkunte continued, “Clearly, as mobile operators are moving to microcellular architectures, innovative wireless backhaul solutions are needed. The Advantech Wireless Transcend™ product line comes at an opportune time to Bermuda and by leveraging Smartrove’s extensive 802.11 mesh solution, it has been possible to have a small, pole-mountable, street-level backhaul solution.”

The burgeoning need for high-capacity video camera traffic to meet growth within dense, complex urban areas has become a key motivator for microwave backhaul deployments and is driving innovation in network development initiatives.

The Transcend™ microwave radio line is Advantech Wireless’ second generation microwave system capable transmitting MPEG data directly from broadcast equipment through integrated DVB-ASI interfaces over the microwave link. The DVB-ASI interfaces support standard definition, high definition, and Digital 3D broadcast applications with capacity of 214 Mbps per ASI stream. The Transcend™ product line fully supports SFN networks and various ISDB standards. In addition, the newest Transcend™ 800 can simultaneously carry native IP and native TDM traffic.

“We are extremely pleased to have risen above the competition with yet again”, exclaimed Sergio Elia, Regional Director of Sales at Advantech Wireless. “Our microwave radio product line is the market leader providing a higher level of performance and features at the best possible price.”

PR-Pulse-Amplifier Montreal, Canada, September 6, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems today announced the launch of its first high power 12kW Solid State Pulse Amplifier.

This 12kW Solid State Pulse Amplifier is the first to combine high power with solid state technology in an amplifier that also features Advantech Wireless’ state of the art remote monitoring and control systems. This pulse amplifier operates in the 1.2-1.4 GHz band and contains multiple hot-swappable modules.

This product was created in response to an overwhelming demand in the marketplace for robust, solid-state pulse amplifiers that can be vehicle-mounted. It can be used in military and civilian radar systems. A team of RF and mechanical engineers worked closely with interested customers to include all the features that would be needed once deployed in the field. The most vital feature is the modular design. It allows elements to be hot-swapped without any interruption of service or noticeable reduction in power.

“While this latest addition to Advantech Wireless’ suite of products is a new entry into a differentiated market, Advantech Wireless is confident that its longstanding reputation for high power solid state frequency amplifiers, plus its past accomplishments and expertise in military environments will lead to the quick and successful adoption of this product line,” states David Gelerman, CEO of Advantech Wireless.

The advantage of solid state design over tubes and klystron technology is that it is much better suited for mobile applications. It is more rugged and not prone to damage in transit. It also contributes to increased reliability and ease of maintenance of this amplifier. Advantech Wireless is regularly sought out by integrators, contractors and government agencies to research and develop customized solutions for clients around the globe. The company prides itself on its product development, technical innovation and engineering capabilities in areas of RF, satellite and wireless communications.

Montreal, Canada, June 16, 2011 —Advantech Wireless Inc., a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems today announced the launch of its newest generation of VSAT Hubs and Terminals. This next generation of Advantech Wireless’ VSAT hubs include DVB-RCS and SCPC operations; either independently or within the same Hub. The new series features a single card MCD supporting up to 96 carriers, maximized bandwidth utilization, word-leading scheduling efficiency, true ACM and more. This allows for low cost and simple upgrades as your needs grow.

Overwhelming customer demand has driven us to create a new series of Hubs for each market. The line-up starts with the Discovery Series, supporting 18 Mbps throughput and optimized for 10-500 Remote Terminals. The Challenger Series is next in line supporting 55 Mbps throughput and optimized for 250-1500 Remote Terminals. The Millennium Series completes the line and offers the highest level of performance of 155 Mbps throughput and supports thousands of Remote Terminals. To address the military and mobile, transportable, harsh environments, we have created the Raptor Hub.

We have addressed another key concern – Price. Advantech Wireless hubs now start at under $50,000. “We began as the market leader and we continue that effort providing the best value for your dollar. Our new line-up of VSAT hubs is available today.” states John Landovskis, Product Line Director at Advantech Wireless.

Montreal, Canada, May 18, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems has been awarded a contract to supply point-to-point microwave radio equipment and solutions to a fast growing central California mobile communications provider. As part of a GSM Backhaul initiative, the Transcend 800 microwave radio was selected as “best in class”.
