Montreal, Canada, February 10, 2012 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave equipment and Smartrove, the newest data offload company based in the silicon valley in the United States, have successfully deployed a large microwave network in the island of Bermuda. This alliance allows Bermuda police department to reach the farthest corners of the island wirelessly and improve law and order by having a 24×7 video surveillance system operate over carrier grade equipment from Advantech Wireless and Smartrove.

“This project is an example of combination two wireless technologies, in the licensed and unlicensed domain. Using the 5, 28Mhz channel width, in the 7Ghz licensed band and frequencies in the unlicensed 5Ghz band, a 99.999 availability video surveillance system has been deployed and successfully been operating for 2 years” said Venkat Kalkunte, President and CEO, Smartrove. Mr Kalkunte continued, “Clearly, as mobile operators are moving to microcellular architectures, innovative wireless backhaul solutions are needed. The Advantech Wireless Transcend™ product line comes at an opportune time to Bermuda and by leveraging Smartrove’s extensive 802.11 mesh solution, it has been possible to have a small, pole-mountable, street-level backhaul solution.”

The burgeoning need for high-capacity video camera traffic to meet growth within dense, complex urban areas has become a key motivator for microwave backhaul deployments and is driving innovation in network development initiatives.

The Transcend™ microwave radio line is Advantech Wireless’ second generation microwave system capable transmitting MPEG data directly from broadcast equipment through integrated DVB-ASI interfaces over the microwave link. The DVB-ASI interfaces support standard definition, high definition, and Digital 3D broadcast applications with capacity of 214 Mbps per ASI stream. The Transcend™ product line fully supports SFN networks and various ISDB standards. In addition, the newest Transcend™ 800 can simultaneously carry native IP and native TDM traffic.

“We are extremely pleased to have risen above the competition with yet again”, exclaimed Sergio Elia, Regional Director of Sales at Advantech Wireless. “Our microwave radio product line is the market leader providing a higher level of performance and features at the best possible price.”

Montreal, Canada, September 6, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems today announced the launch of its first high power 12kW Solid State Pulse Amplifier.

This 12kW Solid State Pulse Amplifier is the first to combine high power with solid state technology in an amplifier that also features Advantech Wireless’ state of the art remote monitoring and control systems. This pulse amplifier operates in the 1.2-1.4 GHz band and contains multiple hot-swappable modules.

This product was created in response to an overwhelming demand in the marketplace for robust, solid-state pulse amplifiers that can be vehicle-mounted. It can be used in military and civilian radar systems. A team of RF and mechanical engineers worked closely with interested customers to include all the features that would be needed once deployed in the field. The most vital feature is the modular design. It allows elements to be hot-swapped without any interruption of service or noticeable reduction in power.

“While this latest addition to Advantech Wireless’ suite of products is a new entry into a differentiated market, Advantech Wireless is confident that its longstanding reputation for high power solid state frequency amplifiers, plus its past accomplishments and expertise in military environments will lead to the quick and successful adoption of this product line,” states David Gelerman, CEO of Advantech Wireless.

The advantage of solid state design over tubes and klystron technology is that it is much better suited for mobile applications. It is more rugged and not prone to damage in transit. It also contributes to increased reliability and ease of maintenance of this amplifier. Advantech Wireless is regularly sought out by integrators, contractors and government agencies to research and develop customized solutions for clients around the globe. The company prides itself on its product development, technical innovation and engineering capabilities in areas of RF, satellite and wireless communications.

The new series features a single card MCD supporting up to 96 carriers, maximized bandwidth utilization, word-leading scheduling efficiency, true ACM and more. This allows for low cost and simple upgrades as your needs grow.

Overwhelming customer demand has driven us to create a new series of Hubs for each market. The line-up starts with the Discovery Series, supporting 18 Mbps throughput and optimized for 10-500 Remote Terminals. The Challenger Series is next in line supporting 55 Mbps throughput and optimized for 250-1500 Remote Terminals. The Millennium Series completes the line and offers the highest level of performance of 155 Mbps throughput and supports thousands of Remote Terminals. To address the military and mobile, transportable, harsh environments, we have created the Raptor Hub.

We have addressed another key concern – Price. Advantech Wireless hubs now start at under $50,000. “We began as the market leader and we continue that effort providing the best value for your dollar. Our new line-up of VSAT hubs is available today.” states John Landovskis, Product Line Director at Advantech Wireless.

Montreal, Canada, June 9, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems is excited to announce that it has renewed its supply contract with one of China’s largest satellite communication providers, operating in all 26 provinces and offering telecommunication and broadcast services.

This provider supplies communication capabilities in industries including entertainment, hospitality, internet and cellular backhaul. They also are a vital government partner during emergencies and disaster recovery, enabling essential communication to be established quickly.

Montreal, Canada, May 18, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems has been awarded a contract to supply point-to-point microwave radio equipment and solutions to a fast growing central California mobile communications provider. As part of a GSM Backhaul initiative, the Transcend 800 microwave radio was selected as “best in class”.

Extensive field trials and rigorous testing indicated the Transcend 800, manufactured by Advantech Wireless, exceeded all requirements. The seamless and errorless ACM operation, included Layer 3 router, high system gain of this carrier grade IP, TDM and broadcast microwave radio make it ideal for cellular backhauling applications. The Transcend 800 can be configured as a narrow band or wide band IP, TDM, or mixed IP/TDM transport stream radio. Traffic capacity can be provisioned based on priority or dynamically changed to provide maximum throughput. This contract also comes on the heels of three days of on-site training provided by Advantech Wireless. This training gives engineers and technicians enhanced skills needed to trouble-shoot their network, to fully understand the features of remote monitoring and network management tools.

“We are extremely pleased to have risen above the competition with yet another major win”, exclaimed Pierre Cardinal, VP Sales at Advantech Wireless. “Our microwave radio product line is clearly the market leader providing a higher level of performance and features at the best possible price.” The Transcend 800 microwave radio will facilitate this customer’s rapidly expanding mobile broadband coverage initiative and meet ever-increasing demand for mobile data applications.

Montreal, Canada, May 12, 2011— Advantech Wireless, a privately-held Canadian corporation announced today that it has posted a record $17 Million profit for the year ending April 30, 2011, compared with a $4.5 Million loss the year previous. The year was highlighted by successful sales across all product lines – Satellite Modems, RF Transceivers, Converters, LNAs, BUCs and Solid State Power Amplifiers; as well as systems and solutions: Terrestrial Microwave Point-to-Point Radios; high performance Ruggedized Routers, and VSAT Hubs and Terminals, including deployable integrated antennas. The company also benefited this year from corporate consolidations and expanded development and support facilities to better service our customers.

“Improved margins and sales, combined with our substantial investment into innovative new products and cost-reduction efforts, have significantly added to the bottom line, all this in spite of the almost all time high value of Canadian dollar, our functional currency.” remarks David Gelerman, CEO Advantech Wireless. “In addition, we have revitalized our international sales force, rebranded our products and services, secured the future by reinvesting up to 18% of our gross revenues into research and development and have reduced our corporate debt by 70%, as it became due, from over $41 million to just over $12 million over the last three years.”

Advantech Wireless expects to continue this trend with major growth in 2011. Having succeeded in increasing more profitable sales, curtailing costs, signing a new three year labor agreement with its engineers, opening a new facility in Ontario to serve as a Research and Development Centre of Excellence to explore next generation wireless technologies and products and posting record profits, Advantech Wireless is well on its way to another great year. Mr. Gelerman further elaborates: “We will continue our relentless effort to further increase profits and sales, continue to introduce new solutions and systems; constantly improve customer service and support, and therefore delight our customers and stakeholders with the new level of corporate performance.”

Advantech Wireless has always been at the forefront of new technologies. Our groundbreaking RF products, VSAT DVB-RCS Hubs and Terminals, Enhanced High Performance Modems, High throughput Ruggedized Routers and Point to Point Microwave Radios are best in class!

A renewed spirit and revitalized culture has resulted in yet another record year – we have never received more praise from our customers for excellent product performance, improved deliveries and customer support. Customer satisfaction is our most important goal!

Montreal, Canada, May 3rd, 2011 —Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF Equipment and Microwave Systems was recently selected to supply ruggedized routers to a European military agency. The RAR9160 ruggedized router combines all the performance features of Advantech Wireless commercial routers, including high performance and interoperability, while meeting the demanding environmental and reliability requirements of the military.

“Maintaining secure and reliable communications is vital for military applications. These routers are to be used in some of the harshest places on the map,” states Mark Lambert, Managing Director, EMEA and VP Sales & Marketing at Advantech Wireless. “Our proven track record in providing communication equipment to key defence agencies in deployments around the globe was instrumental in being awarded this contract.”

The RAR9160 ruggedized router operates in temperatures from -22°F to 140°F with no fans or moving parts, encased in a weather-proof box, it is designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions. Advantech Wireless solid state design and Gigabit performance provide the reliability and efficiency needed for military applications. The RAR9160 router is completely compatible with third-party telecommunication equipment and can be easily integrated into existing networks.

Reported spending by the European military fell 2.8 % in real terms since 2009. Increasing budget constraints have made Commercial-Off the Shelf (COTS) products like the Advantech Wireless RAR9160 Ruggedized Router very popular in providing cost effective network connectivity for satellite networks, point to point wireless networks and last mile applications.

By implementing this network, Hoje Telecom will be able to leverage this growth and provide thousands of previously unconnected users with internet access.

The cost-effective solution that Advantech Wireless is able to offer Hoje Telecom allows them to use their existing legacy equipment. More importantly, it provides them with the flexibility and scalability to add more users and features as the network grows. Advantech will also upgrade the network to provide ACM operation to maximize bandwidth utilization.

One key cost saving benefit for Hoje Telecom is the bandwidth efficiency of the system. This is achieved through Advantech Wireless’ resource management system and the extremely short MF-TDMA frame period of 26.5msec. This frame period enables instantaneous response to changes in demand while at the same time significantly minimizing jitter for sensitive real-time applications. Transmission efficiency and bandwidth savings are achieved by using ACM on the DVB-S2 Forward Link and ClearSky™ (Return link Adaptive Rain Fade Countermeasures) and 8PSK on the Return Link. These best-in-class transmission technologies generate levels of efficiency that are at the cutting edge of what is achievable today.

The S4120 ACM DVB-RCS VSAT terminals being deployed enable DVB-S2 ACM operation, widely recognized as the most bandwidth and performance efficient technology available. Advantech pioneered this technology in 2006 and continues to be a market leader in this area. Remote terminals receive up to 135 Mbps, transmit up to 6 Mbps and support bandwidth on demand VoIP applications. As the outdoor units will be installed in remote locations throughout Brazil, long-term reliability is essential to reducing the total operating costs.

“The combination of Advantech Wireless’ high performance products, local service and field-proven solutions was key in securing this contract. We look forward to being able to help Hoje Telecom provide reliable communications to many communities that are currently without internet access” noted Claudio Frugis, Director of Sales for Brazil for Advantech Wireless.

Montreal, Canada, March 28th, 2011 — Advantech Wireless, a Quebec based manufacturer of Microwave Systems, Satellite and RF Equipment, is excited to announce that it is now delivering the latest version of its Transcend 800 Microwave Radio, a perfect fit for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) backhaul. The new 8 ASI interfaces, developed in response to customer demand, is the next step in the evolution of the already feature packed Transcend 800 product line.

The Transcend 800 provides the maximum bit rate of 214 Mbps per ASI interface compared with the typical 100 Mbps of most other units on the market. This means that 24 HD broadcast quality channels or 2 HD high-profile contribution quality channels are supported per ASI interface. With the optional 8 ASI version, 8 HD contribution quality channels can be supported in a single unit, reducing the overall footprint and the number of units needed.

“The most important feature we can offer our customers is even stronger system gain, up to 10 dB more than the leading split-mount competitors. This allows our customers to use smaller antennas, less expensive towers and longer hop lengths. In some cases, decreasing the number of hops will dramatically reduce installation costs and maintenance costs. In both the short and long run, the Transcend 800 is a solution that provides a lower total cost of ownership. In today’s market, our customers really appreciate how stronger system gain can translate into substantial cost savings.” Chi Hang, Product Manager for Terrestrial Microwave Communications at Advantech Wireless. By reducing the number of the units needed, customers also save on rising electricity costs in addition to the savings on the initial investment, making the Transcend 800 a wise and economical choice.

Field trials are currently underway with several major broadcast suppliers in Europe and South America. Preliminary results have been very positive.

When installing new DDT transmit towers, the integrated 10MHz high-stability Stratum 2 clock in the Transcend 800 eliminates the need for installing expensive GPS equipment.

Transcend 800 automatically adjusts coding and modulation rates, using its “True ACM” ™ technology, matching changing environmental conditions without any payload error. This allows for sustained availability at overall higher capacity.

For customers looking to the future, the Transcend 800 carries both full-duplex ASI and IP in a single unit and is available in all ETSI/FCC licensed spectrums.

Field-proven S5420 DVBS2-ACM terminal features Multimode adaptive TDMA (RCS)/SCPC (Turbo) Return Channel

Montreal, Canada, March 22, 2011. Advantech Wireless, a Canadian-based manufacturer of Satellite, RF and Microwave systems announced today that it has received increased orders relating to the S5420 Multimode DVBS2-SCPC/DVBS2-RCS terminal, a product field proven technology that provides operators ability to offer both dedicated bandwidth and shared subscription bandwidth services on a single platform. Typical SCPC access applications are Video Conferencing and GSM Backhaul that requires clear jitter-free channels, vs transactional or bursty applications such as ATM Banking and Internet Access that can be served with TDMA-RCS access.

Remarkably, Advantech’s competition has released a major announcement that they were almost ready to release a similar product and that they are first to market this technology already field proven by Advantech, Wheareas announcements like this are misleading has served to validate Advantech’s vision and the market need for this product offering and consequently, the market has decided to continue to support Advantech Wireless, as the multimode terminal of choice.

Advantech Wireless first launched its dual mode terminals in 2005, after acquisition of SpaceBridge Networks. S5420 VSAT terminals is the second generation of TDMA (DAMA)/SCPC DAMA, are both DVB-S2 true SCPC enabled and fully DVB-RCS compliant, providing Point-to-Point or Point-to-MultiPoint IP connectivity with industry leading performance at an extremely low price. They are optimized to achieve high-performance and quick response times for enterprise, service provider & governmental applications. Advantech Wireless is still the only manufacturer to offer “real” SCPC and RCS and not simply an emulation like others have in development.

“Bringing TDMA and SCPC together is an industry breakthrough” claimed only recently by our competition. However, Advantech Wireless was the first to market and has many of these multimode terminals operating world-wide in the field for over a five years and more specifically S5420 for over a year! “This development is proof once-again that Advantech Wireless is the market leader – First to market with the Most Efficient technologies”, states John Landovskis, the PLM of the VSAT product line. “I would personally like to thank our customers for recognizing our vision and for this unexpected boost in our sales”.

The S5420 supports the Advantech Wireless Pay-As-You-Grow™ concept. The S5420 typically is deployed as an SCPC terminal at remotes, in conjunction with DVB-S2 Forward Link Sub-System (FLSS) and Continuous Carrier Multi-Channel Demodulators (CC-MCD), available in cost effective 2, 4, 8, or 16 channels. As the network grows, the hub can be upgraded to add full DVB-RCS compliant operation with the addition of a DVB-RCS Return Link Sub-System (RLSS), while remote terminals could now be programmed from the Hub to operate in either mode, based on actual traffic patterns. No hardware modifications or upgrades of the FLSS or terminals are necessary. The terminal switching from one mode to other and back can be completely transparent to the end user.

Montreal, Canada, April 15th, 2010 — Advantech Advanced Microwave Technologies Inc. (“Advantech Wireless Broadband”), a Quebec based corporation announced today that it has launched its new addition to its Transcend 800 product range of high-capacity point-to-point microwave radios. The new model features native DVB-ASI inputs and outputs to enable Broadcasters to connect directly to their transport stream sources without the need for expensive transition equipment or encapsulators.

The Transcend 800 range has been shipping to customers since the beginning of 2010 and can deliver up to 400Mbps across a single point-to-point microwave link via a single indoor unit, or 800Mbps in coupled mode. That data can be multiplexed from a series of data interfaces, now including DVB-ASI. The unit also incorporates a powerful Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet Switch and Layer 3 Gigabit Router for IP (Internet Protocol) traffic.

Transcend 800 automatically adjusts coding and modulation rates, using its “True ACM” ™ technology, to match changing environmental conditions without any payload error. This allows for sustained availability at overall higher capacity.

“Advantech has always listened to our customers and delivered solutions to their needs” stated Vagan Shakhgildian, President and Chief Operating Officer of Advantech, “this is just one example of many where we have brought our technology expertise together to add value to our products.”

True ACM ™ Advantech Wireless Broadband asserts “True ACM” as one of its business trademarks.

Montreal, Canada, April 14th, 2010 — Advantech Advanced Microwave Technologies Inc. (“Advantech Wireless Broadband”), a Quebec based corporation announced today that it has launched its new range of solid state power amplifiers (SSPA’s) and Block-Up Converters (BUC’s or SSPB’s) making advantage of GaN (Gallium Nitride) technology. Feedback from the first customers for the products, known as Advantech’s G-series, is extremely positive as they take advantage of the compact size and light weight solutions that this technology enables.

Advantech believes that the Ku-band products that it can now offer in 50W, 100W and 250W are the World’s smallest. Due to the margins that their designers have been able to reserve between the operational and maximum specified parameters for the core devices (such as operating temperature and voltages) the reliability of the new products is also extremely impressive. The MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), when compared to equivalent GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) products, is greatly increased to over 80,000 hours.

“Advantech prides itself on bringing the latest technologies to market” stated Vagan Shakhgildian, President and Chief Operating Officer of Advantech, “after much research and development, we can now say that we have harnessed the power of this technology and can deliver the benefits to our customers.”
